When well-known local runner Bernie Wlock was diagnosed with cancer in 2015, a natural partnership came into place to honour his journey. On June 18, 2016, over 100 participants raised more than $8,750 for Local Cancer Initiatives through Brayden Ottenbreit Close Cuts for Cancer and The Health Foundation.
Bernie had been an integral part of the early stages of Close Cuts as a participant and he took on an even bigger role as one of the key planners in the Health Foundation’s Charity Road Race.
The money raised comes from Bernie’s Journey, a 5km or 10km walk or run where participants collect donations for local cancer initiatives that will enhance the lives of those people from Yorkton and area that are affected by cancer.
Following the walk or run, participants are treated to a pancake breakfast.
